Disability Information

Applying
In September 2001, the CFIDS Association of America published an article entitled, "How to Apply for Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits if you have Fibromyalgia" by Lynne Matallana, Executive Director.  This CFIDS Association article from the National Fibromyalgia Awareness Campaign guides you through the steps for applying for Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits and the pitfalls to avoid.

Are you or someone you know planning to file for disability benefits?  There's a new tool to help.  When an adult applies for disability benefits, a Disability Report (SSA-3368) is completed.  The form helps the SSA obtain information about an applicant's condition, and is the key to obtaining medical records.  Now you can get tips right over the Internet on how to best complete the 3368.  Just click on any section of the form and you'll get a "plain language" explanation of what the SSA is looking for, why they need the information, and how your answers help them decide if you can get disability benefits.  This new tool is your key to having the Disability Report completed before your appointment.  Check it out at visit http://www.ssa.gov/disabilityformhelp/.

Social Security Ruling, SSR 99-2: Titles II and XVI: Evaluating Cases Involving Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
The Social Security Advisory Service (SSAS) has published the Social Security Ruling, SSR 99-2p.; Titles II and XVI: Evaluating Cases Involving Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) on their web site, www.ssas.com.  It also includes an analysis by Ralph Wilborn.

From the SSA's web site:  SSR 99-2p: Policy Interpretation Ruling Titles II and XVI: Evaluating Cases Involving Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

"Historically, CFIDS patients have had an especially difficult time getting their Social Security Disability benefits. To address this problem, in 1999 the Social Security Administration (SSA) published a ruling which stated that CFIDS can be disabling. This ruling, SSR 99-2p, provides an outline that CFIDS patients and doctors can use when developing their disability cases."
